DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – After a period of above normal temperatures and no snow, winter weather is expected to make its return to the Northland Tuesday night into Thursday.
The National Weather Service Office in Duluth has issued a Winter Storm Warning for mixed precipitation and freezing rain turning to heavy snow in much of northeast Minnesota and far northwest Wisconsin.
Most areas of northeast Minnesota could see total accumulations of 5 to 10 inches of snow and 10 to 18 inches for the higher terrain along the north shore where a Blizzard Warning has been issued.
Far northern Wisconsin can expect 3 to 6 inches but 4 to 9 inches in northern Bayfield County.
Strong winds, gusting to 40 miles per hour in most areas and 55 miles per hour along the north shore, may cause blowing and drifting snow and travel could be very difficult especially along Highway 61 up the shore.
The hazardous conditions may impact commutes on Tuesday evening, Wednesday and Thursday morning.
