DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – After several dry winters, more normal snowfall has returned to the Northland which is good news for the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.
The annual Beargrease race will be back with a start in Duluth beginning on January 25th. Dozens of sled‑dog teams will depart from Billy’s Bar and Grill, and race officials say the trails are in top condition after years of thin snow and challenging weather.
With the Beargrease race being canceled in 2024 due to no snow, and delayed and shortened in 2025 due to trail conditions, event leaders like Mike Keyport say snowfall this winter has been long-awaited.
“There’s more snow where they mush and train, on parts of the Beargrease trail, today than there was all of last year,” said Keyport.
Information about the marathon, the mid distance race and where to track the teams can be found on the website beargrease.com.
