DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – At Monday night’s Duluth City Council meeting, Mayor Emily Larson presented a proposed budget for 2024.
Calling it a “good news” budget, the mayor’s proposal calls for a 2 percent levy increase and says the average taxpayer will pay fewer city property taxes next year compared to this year.
The budget proposes a record 14 million dollars for street repair, a one time investment to replace equipment, fills critical staffing gaps and prioritizes downtown safety.
Larson says nearly 4.4 million dollars in additional state local government aid (LGA) was the largest increase in over 20 years.
She says that state money coupled with one-time investments from reserves and the remaining American Rescue Plan funds made the low tax levy budget possible.
