THOMSON TOWNSHIP, MN (KDAL) – On Monday night a Carlton County Sheriff Deputy conducted a traffic stop in Thomson Township.
After speaking with the occupant of the vehicle, the deputy determined a further narcotics related investigation was needed and called for a K-9 unit from Fond du Lac Police to assist.
When the K-9 unit arrived, the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle.
Deputies pursued the suspect along multiple roadways in Thomson and Midway Townships before they temporarily discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns.
After re-engaging a short time later, the suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled into a wooded area near the Midway Road.
An extensive search of the area was conducted but the suspect was not located.
During the investigation deputies discovered a bag containing suspected narcotics in the vicinity where the suspect had fled and submitted it to the Minnesota BCA for laboratory testing.
Although law enforcement has identified the suspect, he has not been arrested and the investigation is continuing.
Carlton County Deputies were assisted by Fond du Lac, Cloquet and Hermantown Police, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department and Rescue Squad and the Minnesota State Patrol.
