DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Through several federal and state grants and bonds, the 23.3 million dollar Aerial Lift Bridge rehabilitation project is now fully funded.
The project that includes replacing deteriorated sections of the lift span, structural steel repairs, replacing the bridge sidewalks and repainting is expected to begin in the late fall or early winter.
The four year project will occur only during the winter months when the bridge deck remains in the down position and the work will not interfere with the shipping season.
It will mean the closing of one lane on the bridge with traffic controlled by signal lights. Full intermittent closures of 15 to 30 minutes will happen throughout the project. Longer closures during overnight hours may also be required.
