DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon and the associated races got underway Sunday from Billy’s Bar in Duluth.
The 2026 marathon got off to a cold start as the mushers make their way up the North Shore to a finish at the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino.
The shorter Beargrease 40 and the mid-distance Beargrease 120 also started Sunday.
The Beargrease 40 that finished at the Highway 2 checkpoint was won by Danny Edmonson from Fairhaven, Minnesota.
The Beargrease 120, ended early Monday morning at the Trestle Inn Checkpoint and the winner was Sean deWolski of Fairbanks, Alaska.
The marathon leader as of early Monday is Katherine Langlais of Glenwood, New Brunswick followed by Ryan Anderson of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin and Jesse Terry of Sioux Lookout, Ontario. The finish is expected sometime Tuesday morning.
