DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Duluth Airport Authority has announced the receipt of over 20 million dollars in additional federal grant money to support construction of a new Air Traffic Control Tower.
The latest funds were awarded through an FAA Air Terminal competitive grant program.
Airport Authority Executive Director Tom Werner is thankful for the bi-partisan support for the project and says they will continue working with federal and state officials to secure the remaining funds needed to move the shovel ready project into the construction phase.
Once full funding is secured, the Duluth Airport Authority hopes to break ground on the new tower as early as next year.
The tower is currently among the oldest in the country and is in urgent need of an upgrade.
