BEMIDJI, Minn. — After last season’s weird “Let’s play in the season opener and then randomly on a Tuesday that doubles as New Year’s Eve” home and home series, we are back to a “normal” home and home series between longtime Highway 2 rivals UMD and Bemidji State.
Sanford Center is the site for the series opener, before the teams make their way down Highway 2 and meet at Amsoil Arena on Saturday evening. The building here in Bemidji took over $1 million to repair after those awful storms in June wreaked havoc all over the area. Sanford Center was not excepted by the incredibly high winds, with extensive damage to the roof above the playing surface reported.
Everything appears normal now in the building, kudos to everyone involved in the repair work.
As for the hockey, Bemidji State has brought in a few players from the CHL and others who transferred in from USports in Canada, including leading scorer Oliver Peer (three goals in three games). But this is a Tom Serratore team. They can attack in waves, but you’d better pack a lunch, because you will need to work to beat them.
