Good win for UMD to kick off the home schedule Friday, as a four-goal second period propelled the Bulldogs to a 4-1 victory.
Augustana started well, hemming UMD in at times in the first period with a strong forecheck and some poor decisions from the home team. But UMD, led mostly by the line of Kyle Gaffney between Scout Truman and Callum Arnott, started to get its legs late in the first period.
Truman’s goal opened the scoring, off the stick of Augustana defender Max Chakrabarti and over the head of goalie Josh Kotai. Ty Hanson made it 2-0 71 seconds later, and UMD was off and running.
Another potential Adam Gajan shutout was ruined in the third period, this time with an Augustana power play goal.
One of these days …
Anyway, it’s rematch time. Freshman forward Hunter Anderson, who was moved to the fourth line in the third period Friday, sits the rematch, as junior Braden Fischer draws back in on the fourth line. Blake Bechen remains on with freshmen Ryan Zaremba and Daniel Shlaine after getting bumped there Friday. Luke Bibby will play on the right wing after what I thought was a strong debut. The other lineup change is on defense, where Jake Toll makes his UMD debut as the seventh defenseman in place of Riley Bodnarchuk.
Adam Gajan vs Josh Kotai.
