SUPERIOR, WI (CBS-3) – At Tuesday’s Superior City Council meeting, the 2021 budget was approved by the council.
It was a quick meeting with not much discussion, as it took 3 unanimous votes to approve a three part budget, the first of its kind in Superior.
The 2021 budget will include a general fund plan which will allocate $31.5 million to different city departments.
It also plans to give $10,000 more to the police department to increase training opportunities and hire a social worker.
A second part of the budget is the Capital Improvement Plan, which will allocate more than $5 million towards public safety investments, focusing on things like snow removal.
The third and final budget item approved was the budget surplus allocation plan, which will take an unspent $385,000 from last year’s budget and put it towards different city funds.
While Mayor Paine said the budget passed Tuesday should put the city in a good position for next year, he said the city needs to continue to prepare financially for the future.
