DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – U.S. Senator Tina Smith was in Duluth Monday meeting with leaders from Wilderness Health, a network of healthcare providers that serves about 450,000 people across the Northland.
The network’s goal is to improve patient care, reduce costs, and make healthcare more efficient.
To help with the challenges of finding the staff to do that in rural areas, Senator Smith helped obtain $100,000 in federal funding.
The funding will pay for a new program giving healthcare providers the training and practice they need.
Wilderness Health leaders say the money will also help them expose the younger population to places they may not originally consider working.
The Wilderness network includes the cities of Grand Marais, Grand Rapids, Ashland and Cloquet.
