ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – This year’s Minnesota State Fair has been canceled because of the continuing uncertainty about mass gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Decisions on the late summer attraction needed to be made at this time due to the complex planning involved.
State Fair General Manager Jerry Hammer says the fair is built on a vast network of agriculturists, vendors, artists, sponsors and entertainers many of which are worried about getting adequate supplies or finding people willing to work in large crowds.
If social distancing is still needed at the end of August, it would be nearly impossible at the State Fair which Hammer says needs to be a “full-on celebration.”
Planning now begins for the State Fair in 2021, the “Great Minnesota Get-Back-Together.”
