MIDWAY TOWNSHIP, MN (KDAL) – A long investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest of an Esko man for a shooting that occurred in Midway Township on Sunday.
Deputies were called to the area of I-35 near the Midway Road regarding a man who was limping along the shoulder of the highway.
The man was found to have gunshot wounds to both legs but was reluctant to provide any details about the incident.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of the wounds and was released.
Evidence was collected from an abandoned vehicle near the Spirit Mountain Campground along with the discovery of the handgun believed to be used in the shooting.
The 29 year old suspect was arrested Tuesday and faces charges of 2nd degree assault and attempted murder.
Authorities say the shooting was believed to be an encounter between two people who were familiar with each other.
Charges against a third party, who picked up the suspect in the Spirit Mountain area, may be filed by the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office.
