DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – Duluth’s middle and high school students could be back in the classroom in March.
Superintendent John Magas announced the proposal during a School Board meeting Thursday night.
Duluth’s middle and high schoolers have been distance learning since March 2020, when the pandemic first started.
Now, he says state and local health officials have given the initial go-ahead for hybrid learning, based on current COVID-19 trends.
As the proposal draft stands now, 6th, 9th, and 12th graders could be hybrid learning the week of March 8.
Meanwhile, 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th graders would return the week of March 15th.
Magas said all students would be considered distance learners, accessing content online, but would have access to teachers in-person during the week.
Full distance learning would also be an option.
Magas said the state requires Duluth to be in a hybrid model for secondary students before moving to full in-person learning.
This is a proposal. It’s not clear when exactly the state could give its final approval.
