DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A combination of snow and sleet on Thursday has prompted the National Weather Service Office in Duluth to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for most of the region and a Winter Storm Warning for the north shore of Lake Superior.
The Advisory and Warning run from 1 a-m on Thursday to 7 a-m on Friday.
The mixed precipitation could accumulate from 3 to 6 inches in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin and 7 to 10 inches on Lake Superior’s north shore.
Areas near the lake will also see very strong easterly winds that could lead to higher snow totals and a greater reduction in visibility.
Most of the precipitation is expected to fall during the daytime hours on Thursday and, with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark, the heavy wet snow will create a slushy mess on the roads and travel could be very hazardous.
Another storm system could affect parts of the area on Friday night and Saturday.
