ALBANY, NY. (Northern News Now) – The UMD and Michigan hockey teams met in the NCAA regional finals on Sunday, and the first time in the dance since the national championship game in 2011. 15 years later, another classic nearly unfolded.
Despite trailing by three goals in the third period, UMD mounted yet another furious comeback attempt. Harper Bentz, Ty Hanson and Scout Truman all scored in the third period to bring the Bulldogs within a single goal with three minutes to play.
The Wolverines thwarted the Bulldogs final surge to win 4-3 and advance to the Frozen Four. The Bulldogs season ends in Albany, New York in heartbreaking fashion.
“Obviously, tough to get down three, actually didn’t think we played a bad first period,” said UMD head coach Scott Sandelin. “They had a couple opportunities, you know, shorthanded goals, but really, really proud of our guys.”
