SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – A recent street light upgrade in Superior will save the city more than 100 thousand dollars a year in energy costs.
536 street lights long Highways 2 and 53 and State Highway 35 were replaced with LED fixtures as part of a Wisconsin Focus on Energy program.
Over 151 thousand dollars in rebates from that program and a Department of Transportation Carbon Reduction Program significantly lowered the overall cost of the upgrade.
The new street lights also use dark sky technology that reduces light pollution while improving roadway visibility and safety.
Assistant Public Works Director Chris Carlson says the lights are more efficient and will need fewer repairs over the next ten years leading to long term savings for the city.
