DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Wind energy cargo has boosted October shipments through the Port of Duluth-Superior.
More than 3.1 million short tons transited the port last month which brought the season tonnage total to over 23.4 million.
The cargo included the longest wind energy blades to ever move through the Twin Ports, measuring 260 feet. The port also handled a 125 ton dryer for the ST Paper facility in Duluth.
General cargo tonnage neared 24 thousand tons in October and 96 thousand tons for the season so far.
The last time Duluth-Superior topped 90 thousand tons of general cargo in a season was 1991.
Deb DeLuca, Duluth Port Authority Executive Director, says it has been a very strong year for general cargo during an otherwise below average tonnage year.
