SUPERIOR, WI (CBS-3/KDAL) – Former Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen has died.
Hagen, 73, had been battling a terminal lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, for more than two years.
He was a two-term mayor, serving the city for a total of 18 years.
He first served as mayor from 1975 to 1987 and, after moving on to hold several State of Wisconsin positions, Superior voters re-elected him in 2011.
After winning another term in 2015, he stepped down halfway through in 2017.
Hagen blamed his health at the time and said he just didn’t have passion for the job like he used to.
Among the many offering praise for the former mayor was Wisconsin State Representative Nick Milroy who, in a statement said that “Mayor Hagen was a man that loved his community and was a committed public servant. Today is a sad day for all the citizens that benefitted from his service as mayor.”
