FARGO (KFGO) – A government study indicates that North Dakota has the second-highest underage drinking rate in the nation. The results are from a survey conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
The report found that 25.3% of North Dakota residents between 12 and 20 years old have at least one drink a month. Minnesota’s underage drinking rate is about 12.6%.
Massachusetts has the highest percentage of underage drinkers at 28.7%. Utah’s rate of 10% is the lowest in the nation.
The survey says nationwide, more than 7.3 million young people drink and over 4.5 million admitted to binge drinking.
